The new well has brought peace in this village

Richard Omoko, 65 years old, of Oyitoleyi village said, “Due to overcrowding at our former water source, my child was bitten by my neighbour as they struggled to fetch water. I intervened in the struggle and ended up fighting with my neighbour. This caused a rift in the village, but we reconciled during the meeting for this new water well. Thanks for the new well; it has brought peace in this village.”


Acio Agnes, 40 years old, of Adyang Opiro village said, “In 2019 I left my husband because we were fighting over me coming back late from the water well. When he learned this was because the well water was overcrowded, he had to apologise to my parents before I returned back to his home. This new well has saved me from future conflict with my husband because I will be coming back home in time since it’s providing enough water without any crowding.”

Moses Okello, 15 years old, of Barcik village, who is in primary class seven said, “Last term I did not sit my mid-term examinations because of severe stomach pain. After diagnosing and treatment, I was advised to drink only treated or boiled water which my family cannot afford. Thanks for bringing me this safe water source.”

Sam Okello, 45 years old, of Acoo village said, “I suffered from bilharzia in 2018, which caused fear in this village. We were drinking from a swamp and parents stopped their kids from fetching water from our former water source because of what I went through. This well is a source of hope for this village.”

Walter Omodo, 42 years old, of Agung Village, the chairperson local council one of the village said, “The new well has given me some holiday. I had been attending to conflict and violence at the water source weekly, because women were struggling for water all the time, which led to fights. Ever since the new Well started working, I have not received any cases to handle.”

Lydia Ejang, 25 years old, of Oyima “B” Village said, “Our former water source was overcrowded, and I fought with a fellow woman to get what I needed in 2019 when we were struggling for water. This made me stop fetching from the source, and I had been riding a bicycle for 2 kilometres to another source. I am now fetching water at the new well, which is located near my home.”

Pasca Akao, 31 years old, of Wigweng Village said, “Due to overcrowding at our former water source, my husband had been complaining that I was not doing enough for the garden work. Since the installation of this well, I have been spending longer hours with my husband in the garden. This well has saved my relationship with my husband.”

“Our former source was not accessible by children because frogs were scary; there were too many frogs in the former water source. I was not fetching water from that source after 6 p.m. because in 2017 a frog jumped on me at around 7 p.m., making me run. I ended up injuring my leg,” said Catherine Alobo, 33 years old of Awumi Dani Village.

“The waiting time to fetch water from our former water source was 45 minutes because when one person fetches, the water becomes dirty. It takes about 30 minutes for the water to settle and become clean. That is the suffering I have been underdoing, making me to bathe once a day. I am happy now there is enough water in my home,” said Ketty Otema, 45 years old of Ijumara.

Scovia Akullu, 30 years old of Atek, said, “My family suffered from scabies because of our former water source. I spent Uganda shillings 140,000 on treatment. This well has saved my money from treating scabies.”

“Because of the long distance to the next water source after our water source dried off, in January 2019 I fought with my husband because he was suspecting me of over delaying at the water source, yet it was 1.5 kilometers walk to access the water source. “I have been stocking drugs in my house because me and my child would not spend a month without either experiencing diarrhoea or stomach pain. With the new well, in the last three weeks we have been fine. I will now stop stocking drugs in my house,” said Joyce Akullu, 19 years old of Angic Lower Village.

Stella Apoto, 18 years old of Agwei Village, said she drowned in the swamp in 2018 when she was crossing a swamp to access a spring. “It was a nasty incidence because I came back home without water. I am now safe with the new well.”

Dorcus Atim, 20 years old of Abuku Village, said she parted ways with her husband in January 2019 because he was over complaining of her delay at their water source yet their well was overcrowded. “I came back last month after resolving the conflict. This well will save my marriage.”

Grace Ojuka, 27 years of old of Okerkok Village, said she fetched live worms into her jerrycan in their former source in June 2018, which scared her. The new well has now erased her bad memories of drinking contaminated water.

“I had stopped fetching water from our source in the evening because frogs were all over in the water in the evening. The new well is a savior. My appreciation to JF Well Works Africa for bringing the new well,” said Monica Aciro, 18 years old of Abuka Village.

“Because of frequent diarrhea cases in my home, I have been stocking drugs in my house. Since April 2018, there have been no cases of diarrhea in my home. I have now stopped stocking drugs in my house and saved money to pay school fees for my children,” said Betty Ogwal, 36 years old with seven children of Lwala “A” Village.

Teddy Akello, 27 years old of Olengobir Village, said she has not suffered any stomach pain since she started drinking from the borehole. Before, she was treating stomach pain weekly.

“I had been spending half of my income to treat typhoid fever in my family due to our contaminated hand-dug well. JF Well Works Africa, you are a saviour to my family,” said Scovia Lawerence, 25 years old, of Orupu village.

Aceng Silveria, 58 years old, of Aweibura village said, “My children suffered from scabies due to our un-protected spring, and I had been spending 40,000 UGX per month for treatment. Your new water well has saved me from spending that money.”

Dorothy Acen, 28 years old, of Ajaka village said, “Typhoid fever has been a disaster in this village; every family suffered from it. The former water source was condemned by the sub-county health inspector as a source of infection for typhoid fever, but since there was no other option, we were still drinking from the same source. This well is our medicine for typhoid fever now.”

This is my first time drinking from a trusted water source and I hope to live longer because I am now safe from water-related diseases.”

Lestina Amongi 54 years old of Barr-Yao Village said, “We never had enough water at our house because at the former water source we couldn’t fetch more than two jerrycans a day because of the struggle involved. Now, I am fetching enough water for the family because of the new well.”

No more flagyl needed

“Flagyl tablet has been my weekly food because I have been suffering from diarrhoea and typhoid fever frequently. I was advised to take a dose of Flagyl weekly to protect me from infection, but the new well has saved me from the weekly tablets. I have stopped taking tablets for the last two weeks,” said Grace Abote, 48 years old, of Acan Dyel Village.

Eunice Atim, 30 years old of Obelle Village, said, “I have been swimming through a swamp to access the only nearby open water source. I have lost many of my clothes crossing the swamp to access water because the swamp has been tainting my clothes.”

Patricia Akao, 24 years old of Obeny Village, said, “This village has been stressed of water; even the private nursery and primary school pupils in this community had no water source. Pupils have been disturbing communities here to have drinking water yet the distance to access water could not allow us to provide for them. This well has relieved our water stress.”

Rona Acio, 14 years old of Apalla Village, in class four at Ilera Primary school, said, “Every Tuesday I was punished at school because of late reporting. I had been spending two hours in the morning fetching water for my family. Since the construction of this well, I have been reporting on time. I have survived punishment for late reporting.”

Mary Opong, 28 years old of Opugu Village, an expectant mother with one child, said she has been relying on the children of her neighbors in order access their unprotected water source because the hand dug well was so deep in the hole that she cannot reach, but the borehole has simplified her life; she can now access it at any time.

Eunice, 28 years old of Doggudu Village, said without water, life has not been easy in her house because they were sharing 20 liters of water a day among the four of them due to shortage of water in their village. The new well now allows them to share 50 liters of water a day.

Rebecca Auma, 12 years old of Olil Village, in class seven, said due to the distance to their former water source, she had been absconding from school because at times she fetches water in the morning and ended up reaching home late. Instead of going to school she would sit home for fear of punishment for reporting to school late. But now she is attending classes on time because the well is near their home.

Cidonia Akullu, 68 years old of Bar Opuu Village, said, “I have been surviving on rainwater because my knees could not allow me to walk for long distances to fetch from a well which was located one kilometer away. I will live for many years because water is now near to my home.”

Brenda Akao, 20 years old and a mother of three children, of Leye Village, said the former water source was very steep. You have to climb down in order to access water. In July 2018 she fell in the water in the process of scooping it. It was a very bad experience for her. “The new well will erase my trauma of fetching water from our former water source,” said Brenda.

Dorcus Opio, 28 years old of Atoparoma, said, “I am now preparing food for my family on time. I used to spend about three hours of my time queuing at our former water source.”

“The former water source had created a bad relationship with my wife because her delay at the water sources had made me to be suspicious, but now am free with her. The well is next to our house; it does not take her more than 10 minutes to fetch water,” said James Ogwang, 27 years old of Barodwong Center.


“The former water source has been dirtying our utensils. You cannot even wash with a white plate. Thank you for saving us,” said Rose Obong, 55 years old of Acotedo Village.

Mercy Apea of Ongica Central Village, in class 5 at Ongica Primary School, said, “Our former water source was brownish in color. It had tainted my white school blouse, which made my father refuse to buy me another uniform. Because of the new well, my father bought me a new uniform this term.”

“Stomach pain is no longer in my family. It has been our biggest problem because of our former water source,” said Joy Ocen, 20 years old of Ayile “A” Village.

Sophia Akello, 63 years old, of Kornermolem village said, “I had been spending 20,000 UGX monthly to stock Flagyl in my house to treat diarrhoea and stomach pain. Since the well was installed, I have stopped buying the drug. This well is a relief for me.”

“I have been suffering from diarrhoea every week and surviving on an herbal medicine in order to treat it. The new borehole has rescued me from taking herbal medicine weekly, which was also a danger to my life,” said Grace Akello, 46 years old, of Kweri-Kweri Village.

At times when there were cows at the water source, I’d give them time to drink before I fetched my own. Lillian Adongo, 25 years old of Rao Village, said she has been suffering from typhoid fever frequently, but the new well has since made her relieved because she has not experienced typhoid fever for the last three weeks that she has been fetching from the new well.


Molly Adongo, 35 years old of Atek A, said there has been high rate of domestic violence in their village because they would walk for 2 kilometers to access a well. The new well has improved their lives; peace is now in their houses.

Fibi Atim, 74 years old of Barr-Aliro Village, said in the past 50 years she has lived in their village, she has never drunk water from a borehole because her knees could not allow her to walk to the next village, but now she is enjoying a clean water near her home. “I believed I will live many more years; may the almighty God bless JF Well works Africa.”

It had made her life hard in the village because her parent could not walk that distance to fetch water. She is now happy her mother is able to help fetch water because the well is closer.

Because I had been accessing water from another village, I suffered from a chest pain, so I stopped fetching water because of chest complications. Now I am fetching water again because the new well is only 100 meters from my house.”

Nancy Akello, 11 years old, class 3 at Ayara Primary School in Abongorwot Village, said she has been performing poorly in class because she has not been attending to her homework assignment because whenever she comes back from school, she spends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. walking and queuing at their former water source. Her results have now improved because she is now attending to her take home assignment because it now takes her only 10 minutes to access the new well.

“This well is very easy to fetch. I used to not fetch water for my mum because the old water source was in a deep hole which I cannot reach, but now I am fetching water for my mum,” said Moreen Alaka, 10 years old of Woromite Village.

Tonny Omara, 36 years old of Ayile “B” Village, said, “The borehole has saved our kids from drowning in the open water source, which has been our main source of water.”

Janet Can, 31 years old of Acaeogik, said their former water source was an unprotected spring. During dry season, they ration it between households because after 50 jerrycans, it gets depleted. Now everyone is free to access the new well at any time in any quantity.
